WeTutor.com Launches: New Online Tutoring Service Connects Students With Top U.S. Classroom Teachers
Special Promotion: Join WeTutor.com and Receive $100 in Free Tutoring
WASHINGTON, April 1, 2009 — Today, WeTutor.com launches its online tutoring platform connecting K-12 students with top U.S. classroom teachers, regardless of geography. The WeTutor service is based on tutoring best practices supported by the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) and brings one-on-one tutoring directly to the homes of students, offering added convenience and value for busy parents.
“Every day, more industries embrace online platforms because they are easy, convenient and unconstrained by time or geography. WeTutor brings valuable tutoring services to busy parents and students, allowing them to connect to the best U.S. classroom teachers, no matter where they live,” explained Frank Marvin, CEO of WeTutor and President and Chairman of the Board of The Langley School.
To encourage parents new to online tutoring to give it a try, WeTutor.com is offering $100 of free tutoring to the first 250 parents to register on the web site, beginning at 9:00 am EDT on April 1, 2009.
Tutoring is an $8 billion industry in the United States, and it is growing in part because of the push to keep U.S. students competitive in the global marketplace. At the same time, people of all ages, particularly young people, are using the Internet for information, entertainment, commerce and communications. WeTutor sits at the intersection of these two trends.
“The WeTutor research partnership will allow NAIS to deepen our understanding of tutoring activities in our schools and explore how new technologies can improve the delivery of educational services,” said Pat Bassett, President of the NAIS, which partnered with WeTutor to research tutoring best practices and trends.
The online “Virtual Classroom” is user-friendly and requires no special equipment. Parent and blogger Tara Liloia tested WeTutor.com and reported, “All of the meetings ended with my son feeling energized about his work and smiling about his progress. After the first writing session, he asked when they would get to meet again.”
Asked about his motivation for starting WeTutor, Marvin said: “I wanted to create a place where parents can learn the best ways to have their children tutored and have access to the best tutors they can get for their children regardless of where they live. With the support of the NAIS and the launching of WeTutor.com, we have done that.”
